For
appointment to this grade, a candidate must:
i.
Served in the grade of Senior Clinical
Officer, for a minimum period of three (3) years;
ii.
Bachelor’s degree in
clinical medicine from a recognized institution;
iii.
Certificate in
Supervisory Skills Course lasting not less than two weeks (2) from a recognized
institution;
iv.
Certificate of
Registration from the Clinical Officers’ Council;
v.
Certificate in Computer
Application skills from a recognized institution; and
vi.
Shown merit and ability
as reflected in work performance and results;
Duties
and Responsibilities
i.
Taking history,
examining, diagnosing and treating and managing diseases and conditions in an
outpatient or inpatients health facility;
ii.
Carrying out surgical
procedure as pre training and skill guiding and counselling patients, clients
and staff on health issues;
iii.
Assessing preparing and
presenting medical-legal reports;
iv.
Organizing health
management teams and convening health management committee meeting;
v.
Conducting ward rounds;
vi.
Reviewing and making
appropriate referrals;
vii.
Offering specialized
clinical services including ear, nose and throat/audiology;
viii.
Orthopaedics and trauma
child health and paediatrics, reproductive health, ophthalmology, anaesthesia,
lungs and skin, dermatology and venereology;
ix.
Collecting and
compiling clinical reports, collecting and compiling data for research on
clinical services issues; and
x.
Coaching and mentoring
students and interns on attachment.
