A hundred athletes from Keringet Ward, Kuresoi South Sub-county, gathered for the site handover and groundbreaking ceremony of the Keringet High-Altitude Stadium’s second phase. This phase includes the construction of hostels, dining facilities, a kitchen, and a shed, marking a significant step in enhancing the local sports infrastructure.
The multimillion-shilling project aims to benefit athletes and residents, fostering improved training facilities and business opportunities, and ultimately enhancing the region’s land value. The project is expected to impact livelihoods and community development positively.
During the site handover, Pastor Alex Maina, the County Chief Officer for Youth, Sports, Talent, and Resource Mobilization, emphasized the importance of completing the construction by late May. He urged the contractor to provide job opportunities for residents, aligning with the community’s needs.
He expressed H.E Governor Susan Kihika’s commitment to expediting stalled projects across the county, prioritizing the completion of the Keringet Stadium. This initiative is a crucial part of her vision to enhance infrastructure and community development.
Joseph Kibore, the Director of Political Affairs, conveyed greetings from H.E Susan Kihika. He promised more projects would be done to raise the sports standards in the constituency. The area Member of the County Assembly Hon. William Mutai thanked the governor for fulfilling the promise she made during the campaign period that she would complete all the stalled projects.
Residents of the area could not hide their joy as they finally could have a stadium to train and organize competitions.
Key figures present at the event included sports officers, project managers, PMCs, and representatives from Athletics Kenya, led by Jepta Rono, Engineers among others.
